grocery savings - cashews
Previously unfamiliar with the fact that the cashew tree produces an accessory fruit called the cashew apple, I thought I’d share this picture with you. Cashew seeds themselves come from the true fruit of the tree.
Now on to the point of the post - savings on cashews. Once again, I have found Trader Joe’s to be a bargain over the regular grocery store. A 1# bag of cashews at the grocery store runs approximately $5.99 compared to the same size bag running #3.99 at Trader Joe’s. That’s approximately a 33% savings!
The quality is very good and I loved the fact that I could get them unsalted. I don’t like having other people add sodium to my food for me so unsalted is a huge plus in my book.
If you’re unaware of the good things cashews do for you besides taste great, they are an excellent source of copper (helps us utilize iron and produces pigmentation for our skin and hair!) and magnesium (necessary for bone health).
Since we primarily keep to a vegan diet in our household, nuts and seeds play a major role in getting the nutrients we need. Cashews are wonderful tossed whole into stir-frys, ground into nut butter, chopped for topping or incorporating into Indian curries and eating out of hand for a little pick me up during the day.
As far as I know, Trader Joe’s regularly carries cashews in 1# bags so the next time you’re in need and want to save a couple of bucks, check there first.

I love Trader Joe’s and will look for this “bargain ” on cashews next time I go. Great in stir fry and desserts. Thanks,Yukiko!!
